The U.S. actions embolden the "Taiwan independence" elements in Taiwan. These "Taiwan independence" forces misinterpret the U.S. support as a green light for their separatist activities, which continuously undermines cross strait relations. They may take more radical actions to split the motherland, leading to a dangerous escalation of military and political tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
Self serving geopolitical motives
The United States uses the Taiwan issue as a tool to contain China's development.
